First Look at BMW’s Stunning All-Electric i4 Sedan

“With its sporty looks, best-in-class driving dynamics and zero local emissions, the BMW i4 is a true BMW. It makes the heart of the BMW brand now beat fully electric”.

The BMW i4 electric sedan has finally arrived, and it’s a sight to behold. The sleek and stylish design of the i4 is sure to turn heads, while its all-electric powertrain and luxurious interior offer an impressive combination of performance and comfort. In this blog post, we’ll take a first look at the BMW i4 and explore its features and specs. We’ll also share our thoughts on the i4 and what we think of this new electric sedan.

The world is going electric and BMW is nowhere behind. We’ve seen the iX before, even the mini Cooper Electric SE, and now here’s the i4. The car company just launched their new electric car in India. Globally, the BMWi4 is available in two variants — eDrive40 and M50 xDrive. We get the former at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 69.9 lakh. And though this is the electric version of the 4 Series Gran Coupe, the i4 is based on a specially-adapted version of the CLAR architecture. Let’s take a closer look.

In addition to a large grille up front and larger air dams, the BMW i4 borrows design cues from its sibling the 4 Series. Additionally, the car features LED tail lights and dual-barrel LED headlamps in BMW style. The 17-inch alloy wheels are styled differently for better aerodynamics. This particular Skyscraper Grey color is one of three options for the exterior. Unlike many other electric cars, the i4 doesn’t try to stand out. This one is identical to the ICE-powered model.

There are several upholstery options available inside this five-seater car. However, the main highlight here is the two screens. This dual-screen set-up includes a free-flowing curved 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver display. The latter comes embedded with the latest i-Drive 8 user interface. The car gets a Harman-Kardon surround sound music system, wireless charging, multi-zone climate control, ambient lighting, an electric sunroof, a three-spoke steering wheel, and sports seats for the driver and co-passenger. Lest we forget, it sports three driving modes — EcoPro, Comfort, and Sport.

Now, the biggest USP of this sedan is that it can deliver a driving range of 590km on a single charge! With its 83.9kWh battery pack, the i4 can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 5.7 seconds while producing 335bhp and 430Nm of torque. The sedan is capable of recharging at up to 116kW with regenerative braking itself! Then, there’s fast charging option, helping it to get charged at up to 200kWh, thus enabling it to add around 164km to the range in just 10 minutes! Or up to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

But then, there’s also the question of charging infrastructure. Do we have enough touchpoints to do that? BMW has a plan for that. The brand plans to install fast chargers at its dealer outlets across 35 cities to boost EV adoption. Nonetheless, the charging options for the i4 include an 11kW wall-box charger and an 11kW Type 2 AC charger, apart from the 205kW CCS2 DC charger. With this, BMW promises to have the best network in India.

The Concept and Design of the BMW i4 Sedan

The BMW i4 Sedan is the newest all-electric car from BMW and it’s sure to turn heads. BMW designed the i4 with sleek lines, sharp angles, and an aerodynamic body to create a car that not only looks good but also delivers performance. The i4 is the first electric car to combine BMW’s signature design elements with an electric drivetrain.
The i4 Sedan is BMW’s first all-electric vehicle built from the ground up. BMW aims to compete with other premium electric cars such as the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. The i4 will have a powerful electric powertrain that delivers fast acceleration and impressive range.

Aside from the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycac, the i4 has the most potential rivals, however, BMW India has surpassed them with the i4’s pricing. As far as I’m concerned, the BMW i4 eDrive40s is only available in one variant, and deliveries should begin in July. I cannot wait to drive one. Stay tuned for an in-depth review detailing not just how it drives, but also its driving range.
